The 2-Channel Loop Detector (NND-3802 / NVD-3802), also known as a metal-mass detection detector, is an electromagnetic device that switches its relays according to the density of the metal passing over it. It is mostly used in car-park systems – for the automatic opening/closing of sliding gates and barriers or during automatic ticketing – to detect whether a vehicle is present at a suitable point on the road surface. When a few turns of cable laid in the ground are connected to the loop-detector board, an electromagnetic field is created over the road surface; changes in this field are used to detect metal density, and the relays make contact to activate the system.
